Industry Levy

All building and construction work in the ACT subject to the Act is liable for a 0.2% levy, which is used to finance the industry training fund. The works that are subject to the Act are the same as those outlined in the eligible employment section.

Works that are exempt from this levy are those:

• for which a building approval was issued before 22 November 1999 (the date of commencement of the Act).
• for which a written tender or offer has been made before 22 November 1999.
• where the value does not exceed $10,000.
• carried out by a public authority, not being work awarded to the public authority as the result of a public tendering process [i.e. work carried out by the authority's own staff].
